What is Forensic Accounting?

Forensic Accounting is a specialist area of accountancy, underpinned by protocols relating to the:

  • identification

  • analysis

  • interpretation

  • communication

of evidence of economic transactions, to the established evidentiary standard of an appropriate legal framework.

When a Forensic Accountant is engaged there is at least a suspicion that something has gone wrong in the handling of money or other assets.

Whether it’s a

  • director stealing from a company

  • scam artist conning people out of their investment funds

  • dominant party in a group plundering subsidiaries

  • staff member building up their own nest egg at their employers expense

the Forensic Accountant is the investigator experienced to chase down the money trail.
